Sarah James, singer, poet, mixed media artist and composer, will be performing at Kitano Hotel in New York City. She will be premiering many of her original tunes. Most of this music has not been recorded. Ms. James is working on finding the right mix of musicians to bring the music to life.
John DiMartino, pianist and arranger, Leo Traversa on the bass, and Vince Cherico on drums will be on the bandstand.
John DiMartino is a New York favorite of singers and instrumentalists alike. With a jazz resume that includes many iconic figures in the jazz world, his arranger and pianist skills are in high demand. He is both exciting and thoughtful and willing to harmonically go where his ears take him. He’s unafraid to venture into a multi-textured harmonic musical territory.
Mr. Traversa on the bass is a favorite of the composer. During the 80’s Ms. James was the assistant manager of the Blue Note Jazz Club on 3rd st in New York City. During that time period, she was able to hear and interact with many jazz legends, most of whom have passed on. One of her favorites was Tania Maria, the singer and pianist from Brazil. Mr. Traversa was the bassist for Tania Maria. Many nights she listened to the groove and spirit of Leo Traversa and is excited to have him play her music.
Vince Cherico is a drummer who is the quintessence of a jazz musician’s imagination. Able to speak the language of swing, funk, blues, Latin and rock, he brings a feeling of history to every music he plays. A well known and consistent artist on the scene, he lends a special compliment to any musician looking for an experienced communicator of multiple genres.
