On Friday, July 28, third ward city council candidate, Mayme Robinson, her husband, former third ward councilman, family, neighbors, and supporters held a grassroots Community “Comedy Nite and Karaoke Fundraiser” to mobilize her Campaign. It was the beginning, it was not the end, but it’s the way it is.
Mayme Robinson, the now acclaimed Third Ward, “People’s Candidate” and her neighbors, family members, and residents from other districts, who live in her ward put up a large tent and built a homemade stage, put up lights, and a sound system in the Robinson’s backyard and held a “Comedy Night,” starring New Jersey comedian, Rashad Reese seen on B.E.T., Mic Stand, Apollo, Bounce, Fox, and Show Time.
And, on this steaming hot, humid, and humorous summer evening gathering the large crowd filled the seats to capacity. They kept cool with the refreshing breezes from a wind fan and they were served hot fish sandwiches and Buffalo wings with thirst quenching iced tea or lemonade.
The event was well attended by a crowd of over 100 people of all ages. “Run Mayme Run!” the crowd chanted during a brief rally at the intermission session. “Run Mayme Run!” everybody chanted as the host, who is a small-framed, feisty little woman, a wife, a mother, and grandmother, enthusiastically climbed up on the stage with a glowing smile, and declared, “I am the people’s candidate! I want to be the voice of the people in my third ward and keep them informed! Together, we will work things out to improve the quality of life for all in the third ward!”
Robinson is running for third ward councilmen, Ted Green’s seat once it’s vacated after the general election on November 7th, 2017.
The “Comedy Nite” Fundraiser was an eventful affair and, maybe even a few stars were born during Karaoke time along with those shining in the darkness of the sky above in the night. It was the beginning, it was not the end, but it is the way it is.
