Green Heart Lifestyles, the Niagara Falls, NY based garden tools company, has released new information on tips to follow for safe pruning as a part of its 2017 gardening and gardening tools awareness campaign.
According to Aad Hermann, President of Green Heart Lifestyle, “Pruning involves sharp tools such as a bypass lopper, which can be dangerous to wield if the right technique and planning don't take place. Thus, it is very important for gardeners to take adequate steps for pruning safely.”
Many potential hazards can be avoided by planning ahead, using the right tools for the job in hand, wearing the right gear and keeping tools sharp and well maintained. The gardener must be realistic about their experience and fit. Pruning garden shrubs can be very different from pruning trees, so one should be open to calling in professionals for difficult tasks. Pruning can also be physically strenuous, so it is advisable to look out for signs of fatigue and taking appropriate amounts of rest and water to maintain comfort.
Care should be taken to wear well-fitting shoes or boots with non-slip soles appropriate for the scale of the job. Open toed sandals should be avoided unless working with very small plants. This is important as otherwise there are chances of splinters hurting your feet or slipping on the ground.
An often forgotten part of the task, it is important to protect one’s eyes and head while undertaking any kind of pruning. Safety glasses or goggles are a good option as it protects the user from branches, flying debris and provides added protection from UV rays. It also prevents the user from accidentally rubbing their eyes with sap stained and dirty hands.
