Terrence A. Gross, a Fort Walton Beach personal injury lawyer with Gross & Schuster, P.A. in Florida recently announced that there has been a significant increase in the number of cases that are related to animal attacks. The attorney says that most of these cases revolve around dog bites, although there are other animals that are being kept as pets that can also attack.

"A dog bite can be a very serious injury," says Gross. "Not only can it land you in the hospital for treatment, the psychological damage be tremendous."

The Fort Walton Beach dog bite attorney says that he has personally represented plaintiffs in cases against animals that have never before shown aggression. He states that animal behavior in general can be difficult to predict and while many people simply need to be more aware of these behavior changes, owners have to be held accountable when their pet begins to show violence.

"You have to know that you are liable if you own a dog who bites someone," Gross states. "Unfortunately, many owners refuse to collaborate with victims. They refuse to offer compensation to even pay for the medical costs of these attacks."

Gross says that those who have fallen victim to a dog attack should know their rights. He states that anyone who has been bitten by a dog has the right to compensation to pay for medical costs, provided the attack was unwarranted. The lawyer points out that a number of homeowner's insurance policies no longer include animal attacks under their offered coverage, which means that compensation will likely come from the animal owner as opposed to an insurance company. Gross states that this does not make seeking compensation any more or less difficult, but says that it does take a seasoned attorney to seek compensation from citizens as opposed to insurance providers.

Dog bites can cause injury that includes infection, scarring and even permanent nerve damage in severe cases. Gross states that animal owners need to be held accountable for these attacks and urges victims to contact a qualified personal injury attorney to learn what they can do to receive compensation.
