Nutriden Inc. has launched a new marketing campaign to show the importance between sleep and happiness.

Tom Schumlich, owner of Nutriden Inc. said, "When we first started to research the correlation between sleep and happiness, we had no idea of exactly how important a good night rest is for your overall well-being."

Everyone who has ever not gotten enough sleep knows how moody they can become the next day. But if one gets just the right amount of sleep, they can be perfectly happy. So says the survey put together by a mattress company called Amerisleep.

The answer to whether or not moods are affected by sleep in that exact method is yes and no. While happiness depends on a good many things, one can agree that getting a healthy amount of sleep is one of them. When one understands how much sleep they need to be in a favorable mood the next day, they are able to do things, make a sleep schedule, take a sleep aid to help them accomplish their sleep goal.

The survey asked 2000 people how much sleep they got and were they perfectly happy, mostly happy, somewhat happy, somewhat unhappy, or completely unhappy. So, the survey is a self-reported question and answer.

While this is great information to take a look at, it cannot be considered scientific because of the lack of control method. For instance, happy is a derogatory term, making perfectly happy and mostly happy even harder to define as everyone's definition would be different.

The data shared split men and women into two different groups. The biggest difference between the groups came when the survey measured the amount of sleep made people completely unhappy. Men who got 7.03 hours of sleep reported their mood to be completely unhappy. Whereas, women weren't completely unhappy until they only got 5.94 hours of sleep.

As a matter of fact, women who got 7.02 hours of sleep reported that they were perfectly happy. The data was also split between ages, with the older group more happy with less sleep. Again, without a control, one may be able to point to the ability of women to be more resilient, thereby they are able to be happier on less sleep.

Many religious leaders, philosophers, and personal coaches have defined what people need to be 'happy'. Have a purpose, learn to be patient, or have a positive outlook is some of the advice often given.

While getting the right amount of healthy sleep is sound advice and one can be moody without it, true happiness will stem from multiple areas in one's life. And let's face it, there are times in one's life that just aren't meant to be happy. And that is okay.

In conclusion, happiness, while dependant on many things, is affected by how much sleep a person gets the night before or regularly. How happy one is can be felt and measured by the person. Therefore, people understand how much sleep they need to be relatively or perfectly happy and can help their sleep schedule with natural sleep aids if needed. As a person is in charge of their own happiness, it is imperative to get the right amount of sleep and do whatever else needs to be done to gain that happiness.
