Manhattan Beach, California. January 19, 2017 (Press Advantage) Manhattan Beach resident Robert Hess, Founder and President of the Cancer Journeys Foundation, has been invited to attend the second annual Cancer Survivorship Symposium on Advancing Care and Research on January 27-28 in San Diego, California.

The annual Cancer Survivorship Symposium brings together leading scientists, medical practitioners, and caregivers to develop programs that will provide better after-treatment care to the more than 12 million cancer survivors currently living in the United States.

“What to do and how to best live their lives following the completion of their cancer treatment is fundamentally important to cancer survivors,” says Hess. “There isn’t much in the way of structured survivor plans at present,” said Hess, “but these survivorship symposia are a huge step in that direction.”

Among the symposium’s many topics, sessions will cover genetic aspects of cancer survivorship, models of community-based survivorship care, and living through and beyond cancer for senior citizens.

“I learned a great deal from the 2016 symposium and I’m sure this year will be even better and that I will be able to bring back information we can use in our support programs,” said Hess.

Said Hess, “The end of cancer treatment is just the beginning of a person’s cancer journey. Our mission is help make that journey as meaningful and enjoyable as possible. We think an anonymous writer has it just right – ‘When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on’ – our goal is to help people tie that knot,” said Hess.
