TheProductLawyers.com reports on an article by Women’s Weekly which discusses a newly filed lawsuit naming Johnson & Johnson and Rio Tinto Minerals Inc.

According to the article, the plaintiffs involve four women from Louisiana who have ovarian cancer, and a husband of a woman who has passed away. Court documents suggest that each of these women used Johnson & Johnson products during 2011 and 2015, which lead to their cancer diagnoses.

Numerous studies have found that women who use baby powder as a feminine hygiene product are more likely to develop this debilitating disease. However, the link has not been definitively made, according to several other studies done by researchers.

Thousands of women in the U.S. have made similar claims alleging that Johnson & Johnson hid valuable medical information that prevented consumers from knowing the dangers of using the powders. Those plaintiffs further claim that the use of Johnson & Johnson’s powders as a feminine hygiene product are directly linked to ovarian cancer. Johnson & Johnson has denied claims that their products cause cancer and has stated that no causal link exists. As a result, the company posts no warning labels about links to cancer on its products.
