TheProductLawyers.com reports on a lawsuit filed by several Canadian women in regard to Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder products.
Thestar.com reported that a group of women from Quebec, Ontario, and Montreal filed a lawsuit claiming Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder products were responsible for the development of their ovarian cancer. The suit alleges Johnson & Johnson was “negligent in the development, testing, design, manufacturing, licensing, distribution, marketing, and sale of Johnson’s Baby Powder.” The suit follows two major jury decisions in the U.S. that awarded plaintiffs millions based on the same allegations against the company.
Thousands of women in the U.S. have made claims alleging that Johnson & Johnson hid valuable medical information that prevented consumers from knowing the dangers of using the powders. Those plaintiffs further claim that the use of Johnson & Johnson’s powders as a feminine hygiene product are directly linked to ovarian cancer. Johnson & Johnson has denied claims that their products cause cancer and has stated that no causal link exists between the two.
Over the last 45 years numerous studies have found that women who use baby powder as a feminine hygiene product are more likely to develop this debilitating disease.
