Scottsdale, Arizona – September 1, 2016, the first day of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Ms. Shelley Martin, founder and Executive Director of Peace Out, Prostate Cancer, a Scottsdale 501 (c)(3) non-profit charity, donated $2,500.00 to the Prostate Cancer Awareness Project to support the continued operation of ProstateTracker.org, a prostate cancer early detection service free on the Internet for all men. Almost 29,000 men die every year from prostate cancer because they don’t know they have the disease. ProstateTracker provides critical early detection and plays a key role in reducing the annual prostate cancer death toll.
“Prostate cancer strikes almost 240,000 men every year and it doesn’t discriminate. Famous prostate cancer survivors include actor Robert De Niro, golf legend Arnold Palmer, and current Secretary of State John Kerry. The key to surviving prostate cancer is finding it early when it is still treatable.” Robert Warren Hess, Founder and CEO, Cancer Journeys Foundation.
Men can sign up for the free early detection service by going to ProstateTracker.org on the Internet. ProstateTracker plots the PSA blood test results and shows if there is a rising trend, making prostate cancer visible so it can be treated. The service is free and anonymous and sends a reminder email when the next annual test is due.
“Shelley does a fantastic job with prostate cancer awareness in Scottsdale and Phoenix, and well beyond,” said Robert Hess, CEO of the Cancer Journeys Foundation, which developed and operates the ProstateTracker app on the Internet. “She founded this ride in honor of her father and grandfather, both of whom died of prostate cancer,” said Hess.
The Peace Out, Prostate Cancer ride takes place every year during Arizona Bike Week and begins at Scottsdale Harley-Davidson, where Ms. Martin is Events Director.
“Shelley is a powerful force for prostate cancer awareness and prevention. Her Peace Out, for Prostate Cancer charity supports awareness and early detection through free PSA blood testing several times a year at Scottsdale Harley-Davidson. She has taken the prostate cancer message to thousands of men since she began the ride, and she’s just getting started!” said Hess.
