Manhattan Beach, California -- Manhattan Beach resident Robert Hess, founder of the Manhattan Beach-based Cancer Journeys Foundation, competed in the SCCA ProSolo autocross challenge on Sunday, August 21st, at the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in Irvine, Califorinia. Hess is driving his car for prostate cancer awareness and to reduce the annual 29,000 man death toll from prostate cancer. Over 200 drivers competed in the event, which is part of a 12 month series.

"September is national prostate cancer awareness month," said Hess, "...and our goal is make men aware of how easy it is to find prostate early using that simple PSA blood and our Internet tool at ProstateTracker.org. September is national prostate cancer awareness month.

“Prostate cancer takes the lives of almost 29,000 American men every year, but it doesn’t need to be that way,” says Hess. "Men just need to have an annual PSA blood test beginning at age 35 and track the results at our free online tool - ProstateTracker.org."

And women are joining the fight against prostate cancer.

"Men need to be aware of the health of their bodies, as well - prostate cancer and breast cancer are almost on the same level. It's fascinating to me that the correlation between the two is almost the same - people don't talk about it so much, but they are almost equal in numbers," said Olivia Newton-John.

'I've always loved driving cars. I had a Porsche 911 when I was stationed in Germany with the US Army, said Hess, and driving on the autobahns was great fun. But I especially like driving autocross because of the driver skill required. I wrapped my Mazda MX-5 in bright yellow with our Cancer Journeys Foundation and Prostate Cancer Awareness Project logos as an attention getter and the races give me a chance to talk with guys about prostate cancer and how to test in a low-key environment."
