E-Cigarette Explosion Lawsuit Filings Increase Rapidly, As NY Woman Is Hospitalized After E-Cig Explodes

LipsigLawyers.com reports on the number of e-cigarette explosions that have occurred in New York since 2009. One such instance is an April explosion involving a Queens woman as per a NY Daily News article.

According to the article, the Queens woman was driving her car when her e-cig exploded in her pocket. Debris from the exploding device lodged into the dashboard of her car. The woman was treated for 3rd-degree burns after being transported to Jamaica Hospital. The Richmond Hill resident has not been able to work since the explosion and has to walk with a cane. She has retained legal representation from Marc Freund of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman to represent her in a lawsuit she has filed not only against the manufacturer of the device but the retailer that sold her the e-cig as well.

Attorney Marc Freund is hopeful that the Queens woman can fully recover from her injuries quickly. He also notes that the frequency of the explosions is increasing at an alarmingly fast rate. There was a similar case involving a 14-year-old Brooklyn boy who sustained bodily injuries resulting from an exploding e-cig as he was testing it out. The device blew up in his face at a local mall causing severe burns to his hands and the loss of eyesight in his left eye. The boy's father has also hired Attorney Freund to represent his son in a lawsuit that is currently ongoing.
