The Alliance for Massage Therapy Education (AFMTE) in Tucson, AZ, has reinstated the Supporter Member Category, adding a few modifications. Due to recent feedback from members and professionals within the massage and bodywork education community, during the May Board of Directors meeting the motion was considered and accepted a proposal to reinstate this membership. In the past, Supporter member benefits were limited to discounts on the conference. Now, an AFMTE Supporter member is able to fully participate by having voter rights, discount to the conference, serve on the committee or as committee chair, and have the opportunity to apply to serve as a Board member.
Stephanie Beck from the Alliance for Massage Therapy Education says: "Previously the Supporter membership was always a very limited type of membership, and AFMTE decided to cancel it as it didn't benefit many people. However, the Board was asked to reconsider and, rather than cancel the membership, change it so that it was more beneficial to individuals. I'm happy to see that they have agreed to this and that the Supporter membership has now been relaunched."
Those who qualify for Supporter membership are encouraged to apply through the AFMTE website. Additionally, members, massage therapy and bodywork professionals are encouraged to donate to AFMTE. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the standards of the massage therapy and bodywork industry through education, advocacy, and support.
The Alliance is also raising awareness of the 2017 Educational Congress. This is a biennial event that started in 2015, when it attracted the largest number of bodywork and massage therapy professionals in the history of the industry. The Alliance aims to beat those numbers in 2017. To achieve this, they encourage new people to become members, while also highlighting the fact that openings remain for keynote speakers, presenters, and more at the event itself.
The Supporter membership is for individuals. Other types of memberships exist for continuing education providers, school owners and administrators, and teachers. Supporter Membership costs just $75 per year and provides members voting rights, a $100 discount for the biennial congress, access to the Alliance online training center, and the right to use the Alliance Membership logo.
