Dwyer Williams Potter Attorneys LLP, a personal injury law firm in Bend, OR, has announced that they now accept cases relating to dog bites and dog attacks. Having been working in the field of personal injury, such as car and bike accidents, nursing home abuse, semi-truck accidents and more, they feel that adding dog attacks to their list of services will better serve the Bend community. They encourage all victims to contact them as soon as possible.

"Dog attacks and dog bites are reasonably rare, and few people realize that they may have a claim to make if they have been a victim," says Roy Dwyer, a spokesperson for the firm. "Because the attacks often throw people's lives upside down, they don't think about the potential for compensation, focusing instead solely on recovery. We want to help them to get the compensation they are entitled to."

The Bend, Oregon office has compiled statistics on dog bites and they are pretty shocking. The majority of dogs involved in attacks and bites are molosser breeds and their mixes. These include rottweilers, pit bulls, cane corsos, presa canarios, fila brasieros, dogo argentinos, boxers, and sharpeis. These breeds inflicted 86% of all dog attacks that cause actual bodily harm to their victims.

Perhaps most worrisome of all is that these breeds were responsible for 81% of all the dog attacks that involved children, as well as 89% of all attacks that involved adults. Seventy-six percent of people who lost their life as a result of dog attacks were due to these breeds. Eighty-six percent of all cases that involved maiming were also caused by these breeds.

"The worrying thing about these statistics is not just how prevalent these breeds are in attacks," adds Roy Dwyer. "It is that despite being responsible for almost all attacks and incidents, only 9.2% of the total dog population belongs to this breed."

Dyer Williams Potter Attorneys LLP is not involved in campaigning for the banning of dangerous dog breeds. They are, however, involved in campaigning for justice for the victims. They also offer a scholarship program for those who are interested in becoming involved in this.
