Attorneys from Banville Law report on a lawsuit filed against defendants AbbVie Inc. and Abbott Laboratories in relation to their prescription testosterone medication AndroGel.

In this specific complaint - filed under case 1:14-cv-00777 - the plaintiff was prescribed AndroGel and used the drug as prescribed for symptoms which he attributed to low testosterone.

The plaintiff filed the lawsuit after suffering a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) or “mini-stroke” which he claims was caused as a result of his exposure to AndroGel. A Transient Ischemic Attack is caused by a temporary blood clot and is often referred to as a “warning stroke” because approximately one in every three people who experience a TIA end up suffering a major stroke within a year. Prior to his use of the testosterone medication AndroGel, the plaintiff had no history of this type of cardiac event or other related events.

This lawsuit is part of the Multidistrict Litigation (MDL 2454) pending in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois under Judge Matthew F. Kennelly. The MDL currently includes more than 2,000 lawsuits relating to dangerous events which have been associated with various prescription testosterone replacement therapy supplements.

In addition to other claims, case 1:14-cv-00777 alleges that the AndroGel supplied was defective due to inadequate warnings about the risks associated with the prescription which the company either knew about or should have known about.

The complaint also claims that defendants AbbVie Inc. and Abbott Laboratories acted fraudulently by willfully deceiving consumers and physicians by intentionally concealing information about the dangers of AndroGel which the defendants had a duty to disclose.

More lawsuits are being filed in the testosterone MDL every day as people learn about the allegations against pharmaceutical companies. “If you or loved one suffered serious injury after using a testosterone replacement therapy supplement you may have grounds for a lawsuit,” commented Laurence Banville, Esq. of Banville Law.

“We are currently assisting individuals and families throughout the country wishing to file a lawsuit in the pending litigation,” Banville continued.
