Pacquiao versus Mayweather Mega Fight Announced

By now, everyone knows about the Fight of the CeBntury – even non boxing fans. Heck, even non sports fans are anticipating the super fight featuring undefeated champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather” and eight division champ Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao. What makes this fight so interesting?

Both fighters hailed rose from poverty and turned to boxing to put food on the table. Mayweather may have come from a line of boxers, and resorted to boxing to bring home the bacon, but Manny Pacquiao hails from developing country, the Philippines. He was so impoverished that he turned to boxing so that he could feed his siblings. The rest, as they say, is history for both world champs. 

It breaks history as the richest boxing match. Ever. In the history of the world. From combined revenues such as sponsorships, bets, closed circuit viewing, pay per view and paper ticket sales, the match is expected to bring in USD $300 million, to be divvied up between the two camps. Ringside seats go for around USD $100,000 for VIPs, while USD $1,000 and USD $7000 are the magic numbers for public consumption. The State of Nevada is also looking to earn more, with hotel reservations and more tourists flocking in for the flight and paying at least triple the normal prices. 

It broke the record for the fastest selling tickets, selling all paper tickets within one minute of release. 

The Filipino politician-slash-boxer took the lower percentage for revenues to make the fight happen. At a 60-40 split in Mayweather’s favour, Pacquiao is looking to take home about USD $80 million while Floyd pockets USD $120 million. 

Las Vegas is booking up! It’s going to be a full weekend in Nevada, as fans are scrambling to book hotels, clubs, restaurants – anywhere to catch a glimpse of the action. 

Mayweather is undefeated at 47-0 with a whopping 26 knock outs, and is a champ in 5 weight classes. Although Manny has had losses, he’s also had more wins, at 57-5-2, and more knock outs, with his total summing up to 38. He is also the sole boxer to hold world titles in eight weight divisions in the history of boxing. These exemplary fighters are the only two in the history of all of boxing to hold titles in four divisions. 

It took half a decade for this mega fight to happen, as negotiations between Mayweather and Pacquiao left a trail of disappointment and anticipation in its wake. The breakthrough in coming to an agreement happened when Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather first met at the Heat-Bucks game on January 27 of 2015 and exchanged numbers. 

Of course, the super fight of the century warrants the best referee in Kenny Bayless, who will earn USD $25,000 in that one night, with judges Dave Moretti, Burt Clements and Glenn Feldman, who are each earning USD $20,000.
